color: black;\">In 2003 Anna May woke up one day and felt compelled to revisit Camp Chapleau, which had been\u00a0associated with the Old Brewery Mission which provided a refuge from\u00a0the storm that life had thrown at thousands of disadvantaged Montrealers over the past 100 years.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt; color: black;\">The good news was that year Camp Chapleau was celebrating its 100th birthday.\u00a0 Anna May and her siblings had been sent there with their mother for refuge and to save them from the abuse for the summer months.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt; color: black;\">After 9 hours driving Anna May\u00a0found Camp Chapleau.\u00a0 Theresa Forster advised her that they were looking for one of the first families who had\u00a0attended the Camp.\u00a0 With only God&#8217;s work there Anna May appeared at the camp and met up with Theresa Forster who was so happy to see us.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt; color: black;\">Theresa remembered that she saw a picture of the Borden family in the McCord Institute on Sherbrooke Street in\u00a0Montreal.\u00a0 Sure enough, Anna May and her sister Shirley\u00a0sifted through 14 albums in the McCord\u00a0archives and finally\u00a0we found the picture.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt; color: black;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt; color: black;\">From there, Shirley and Anna May were interviewed on CTV in\u00a0Montreal.\u00a0 The interview was based on the children being neglected,\u00a0abandoned and frequently abused, however,\u00a0eventually, moving onto a productive life.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt; color: black;\">Anna May and Shirley were also interviewed by The Montreal Gazette.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt; color: black;\">Anna May credits the camp experience and the\u00a0Old Brewery Mission\u00a0for helping all nine children land on their feet.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt; color: black;\">As a consequence, Anna May devoted her life to helping others less fortunate.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt; color: black;\">There was a dinner in Honour of the Borden family at the Old Brewery Mission.\u00a0Also an event at Camp Chapleau was put on in honour of the 100 years celebration honoring the &#8220;Borden Family&#8221;,\u00a0 whereby a Time Capsule was to be placed in the ground with the story of Camp Chapleau and the Borden story as well.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt; color: black;\">A congratulating letter was sent to Camp Chapleau for its centennial anniversary by THE GOVERNOR GENERAL OF CANADA,\u00a0MICHAELLE JEAN.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt; color: black;\">Subsequently the Time Capsule was buried.\u00a0 Anna May can only wonder what the world will be like in 100 years from now. Will poverty be a definition in the dictionary rather than a reality on the street?\u00a0 Will violence in the home be replaced by tranquility and peace?\u00a0 It is Anna May&#8217;s fervent hope that this will be so.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt; color: black;\">Regardless, the message that\u00a0Anna May\u00a0sends to the next generation, should be to work hard towards a society that is\u00a0free of cruelty toward each other.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt; color: black;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What inspired Anna May Borden to finally write a book that had been\u00a0in the making for many years.
